each console has a 3 year RRoD waranty. However, if your console manages to last more than 3 years and then gets the RRoD - you are screwed.
SO in a way, bots should be hoping for thr RRoD ever 2.5 years. For those few that say they have had the same console for 3 years - a feel bad for them, because their consoel WILL red ring, and they will have to pay up...

The only thing that M$ has over sony is XBOX LIVE - And they won't have that advantage forever, PSN is getting better and better while M$ is growing complacent in the online space...

The issue has slowed, but even the jasper chipset hasn't totally fixed the piece of crap known as the xbox 360.
